Senior Data Engineer

Role Summary

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to lead the design and scaling of the data infrastructure that turns high-volume event and telemetry data into reliable, compliant, and queryable data, supporting product decisions, analytics, and compliance reporting.

You'll join early, build and lead the data engineering team, and set the standards others build on, while staying close to the technical work.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and lead a data engineering team: hire, develop, and set technical direction for the engineers working on the data platform

• Own the roadmap for data infrastructure, including evaluating and integrating third-party data sources, balancing reliability, privacy, and cost as needs grow

• Design and oversee batch and streaming pipelines and ETL/ELT workflows that handle high-volume event and telemetry data reliably, idempotently, and cost-effectively, with privacy built in

• Own data modelling for analytics and reporting, enabling self-serve access for product, compliance, and leadership stakeholders

• Define event schemas and data contracts with backend engineers, keeping data consistent from source to warehouse

• Establish data quality monitoring, testing, observability, and documentation practices across the platform

• Partner with security and compliance teams to meet privacy and data protection requirements such as GDPR and COPPA, including retention and access controls

• Work with infrastructure engineers on cloud deployment, infrastructure-as-code, and cost management for data workloads

Required Qualifications

• Substantial experience in data engineering, with a track record of building and running production-grade pipelines at scale

• A track record of leading and developing data or software engineering teams

• Strong SQL skills and modern data modelling practice, including dimensional modelling

• Deep familiarity with privacy by design, including working knowledge of data protection legislation, best practices, and the patterns used to implement them

• Proficiency in Python or TypeScript for pipeline development

• Hands-on experience with modern data tooling (e.g. dbt, Dataform, Airflow, Dagster)

• Clear written communication for schema specifications, design docs, and stakeholder alignment.

• Comfortable setting direction and making sound calls while systems and processes are still being defined

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, or similar), Google Cloud Platform primitives in particular

• Experience with streaming or event-driven architectures (Kafka, Kinesis, Pub/Sub, Dataflow, Flink, or similar)

• Experience enabling self-serve analytics through BI and semantic-layer tools (e.g. Looker/LookML, Looker Studio, Tableau)

• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)

• Experience with game or consumer app analytics, telemetry, or attribution data

• Background in games, interactive entertainment, or media
