Job description
The Marie Curie Dementia Support Group Companion Service supports people living with dementia and a terminal illness, helping them stay socially connected, engaged and supported. Our volunteers play an essential role in creating welcoming spaces where people can enjoy socialising, maintain independence, build friendships and improve their wellbeing by get involved with activities.
The service would not be able to reach those who need it most without the dedication and compassion of our volunteers.
Help us create positive experiences for attendees, their family members and carers.
We are looking for friendly volunteers to support people living with dementia and a terminal illness, helping them and their families stay connected through meaningful group activities, social engagement and relationship-building.
As volunteers build trust and rapport with attendees through the group service, there may be opportunities to continue that support on a one-to-one basis in the client's home.
Availability: Up to 3 hours per week
Location: Forge Fach Community Centre, Hebron Rd, Clydach, Swansea SA6 5EJ
Criteria: Minimum 18 years or older.
What you’ll do:
- Welcome and support people attending the Dementia Support Group sessions
- Get to know attendees and build positive relationships
- Encourage conversation, social connection and inclusion
- Support activities such as games, crafts, music and wellbeing sessions
- Provide a friendly, supportive presence for attendees, families and carers
- Where appropriate, choose to continue supporting an individual through one-to-one visits in their home
