Test Integration Engineer
Job description
Do you want to develop cutting-edge electric drive technology that is helping shape the future of sustainable transport?
At Advanced Electric Machines (AEM), we're looking for an enthusiastic and talented engineer to join our growing team and play a key role in the development, testing and integration of our world-leading rare earth-free electric motors.
This is a unique opportunity to work on groundbreaking technology within a collaborative and innovative environment where your ideas, expertise and contributions will directly influence the future of electric mobility.
Why Join AEM?
At AEM, you'll be joining a business that's challenging conventional electric motor design and helping manufacturers transition towards more sustainable technologies.
But what really makes this role exciting is the variety.
Unlike larger organisations where engineering roles are often highly specialised, this position offers the opportunity to work across multiple disciplines including:
- Applications Engineering
- Electric Drive System Development
- System Integration
- Test & Validation
- Inverter Calibration & Configuration
- Customer Projects
- Prototype Development
- Product Improvement Activities
You'll work closely with engineers, suppliers and customers, gaining exposure to the full engineering lifecycle whilst making a genuine impact on the success of our technology.
Whether you're developing a new test rig, optimising motor performance, troubleshooting technical issues or supporting customer programmes, you'll be at the heart of innovation.
About the Role
Reporting to the Process Engineering Manager, you'll support the development, integration and validation of AEM's electric drive solutions.
This is a hands-on role that combines practical engineering, data analysis and problem solving. You'll be involved in everything from designing and commissioning test facilities through to developing motor and inverter calibrations, supporting customer applications and validating product performance.
We're looking for someone who enjoys understanding how systems work, thrives on solving challenging technical problems and wants to work in an environment where no two projects are the same.
What You'll Be Doing
- Developing and supporting electric drive solutions for a variety of customer applications.
- Designing, building, commissioning and maintaining test rigs and development facilities.
- Planning and conducting electrical, mechanical, thermal and performance testing activities.
- Developing, configuring and optimising motor and inverter calibrations to achieve performance targets.
- Integrating motors, inverters and associated systems into development and customer programmes.
- Analysing test results and engineering data to identify opportunities for performance and reliability improvements.
- Diagnosing and resolving technical issues using a range of diagnostic and measurement tools.
- Working closely with suppliers and technical partners to develop and optimise system performance.
- Supporting prototype builds, development projects and validation activities.
- Producing technical reports, documentation and engineering records.
- Contributing to continuous improvement and new product introduction activities across the business.
What We're Looking For
We're open to hearing from engineers with experience in applications engineering, development engineering, test engineering, systems integration or similar technical roles.
You'll likely have experience in:
- Electric motors, powertrains, drive systems or electrified products.
- Developing, operating or commissioning engineering test facilities.
- System integration and product validation activities.
- Inverter calibration, commissioning or motor-drive parameterisation.
- Data analysis and technical problem solving.
- Working with instrumentation, data acquisition and measurement systems.
- CAN communication systems and diagnostic tools.
- Automotive, EV, motorsport, aerospace, industrial drives or advanced engineering environments.
What Will Help You Succeed?
We're looking for someone who is:
- Naturally curious and enjoys understanding how things work.
- Enthusiastic about engineering and emerging technologies.
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
- A strong communicator who can explain technical concepts clearly.
- Practical and hands-on in their approach.
- Analytical, organised and detail focused.
- Passionate about innovation and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Mechatronics or a related engineering discipline.
What You'll Receive
- Competitive salary dependent on experience.
- Private healthcare, critical illness and death-in-service cover.
- Competitive pension contributions.
- EV salary sacrifice scheme with FREE onsite charging.
- Bike-to-work scheme through salary sacrifice.
- Enhanced family leave.
- 25 days holiday, increasing with service.
- Paid volunteering leave.
Ready to Help Shape the Future?
If you're excited by the idea of working on breakthrough electric drive technologies, solving complex engineering challenges and being part of a team that is helping build a more sustainable future, we'd love to hear from you!
Join us and help redefine what's possible in electric motor technology.
