The Opportunity

We are now recruiting for a Shift Manager.

The Shift Manager will act as a key member of the Tees REP Operations Department management team, providing consistency of approach, understanding and actions between Operation’s shift teams and day’s-based Operation’s and other employees.
The Shift Manager is responsible for the effective planning, delivery, control and communication of short to medium term work control and strategy, driving consistency of approach between shifts.


You’ll be supported with personalised on the job training, coaching, mentoring and twice-yearly development and performance reviews to help maintain & develop your contributions and competence.
• In line with business, client and legislative requirements, be the TeesRep Plant Shift Manager ensuring compliance to and deliveries of the px Group Operating Standard through leadership, direction and management strategy, actions and results.
• Act as the Control Person for the site, driving ownership and accountability for site operations within the shift team.
• Have responsibility for leadership of a shift-based operations team for the delivery of safe operations and effective running of the plant ensuring all Operational and legislative requirements are met, maintained and improved
• Lead the operations & maintenance shift teams and other assigned personnel ensuring they meet required standards in a safe, timely manner. Overall responsibility for supervision, development, welfare and Operations capability & competency for assigned team
• Support the training and competency of shift-based staff so that all operations shift employees are able to cover and provide flexibility across shifts.
• Support key site processes including but not limited to control of work, HAZID/HAZOP, Process safety, control of work and legionella compliance.
• Be seen as the focal point for all operational activities on a day-to-day basis. Prioritising and directing shift and day-based operations and maintenance staff to maintain safe and reliable operations. Be the key contact for external resources/contractors operating the MPT providing them with sufficient information as to prevent loss of fuel supply to the gasifier.
• Be the lead in recording, initial actions and investigations where there are any significant deviations from normal operating practices
• Lead and execute the site incident management procedures as required. Direct and instruct team members in roles assigned to them and escalate as appropriate to the local and head office management team.
• Embed processes on site from the company operating system (COS) which have been assigned to you. Develop and execute plans to gain compliance with where gaps exist. Own, update and communicate any changes to all operations procedures assigned to you.
• Manage the operations shift team to ensure achievement of the O&M contract requirements and KPI’s
• Portray the role of Shift Manager in a positive and professional manner, completing and applying required development activities to maintain competence
• Support the Operations Engineer in delivery of control of work (CoW) activities during high priority, high risk and high-volume periods through creation and issue of CoW documentation.
• Act as a permit lead during outages in support of the operations engineer.
• Deputise for other site team members during holidays and times of absence
• Provide leadership regarding investigations, processes, audits, procedural actions and communications locally at site
  • ONC/NVQ level 3 / PPO 1,2 & 3 or equivalent in engineering, maintenance or process disciplines or equivalent experience
  • Held an equivalent role in power generation, energy from waste or 24/7 high hazard operational manufacturing environments with line management experience
  • NEBOSH General Certificate
  • Safe System of Work processes and procedures: Permit to work & Risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
  • Demonstrable and detailed technical knowledge of industrial process equipment and operation
  • Work collaboratively with other departments & third parties.
  • Producing & maintaining site documentation, records & procedures
  • Plant SHE systems & procedures including appreciation of permit to work systems and documents
  • Experience working as a Team Leader or leading a team.
