AV and IT Systems Engineer
Job description
AV and IT Systems Engineer
Role Overview
This is a field-based engineering role sitting primarily within AV and IT systems, covering AV installation and support, general IT systems work and device deployment across client sites, with regular movement across the service desk and network team depending on workload and client need. This role is replacing an existing team member, and the expectation is flexibility, not specialism in isolation. You will be hands-on across a mix of client sites and will be expected to pick up work across disciplines without needing to be directed toward it.
You will be equally comfortable resolving straightforward, day-to-day issues as you are investigating more involved technical problems, and confident being the first point of contact on-site for clients. This role would suit a strong 1st Line Engineer, or someone at the entry-level end of 2nd line, with a genuine interest in AV and IT systems and a working knowledge of networking fundamentals.
Key Responsibilities:
- AV system installation and support, including displays, switching and control systems.
- General IT systems support, including device provisioning, deployment and configuration.
- General L1 / L2 field service desk work including onsite escalations and client-facing support.
- Supporting and troubleshooting Microsoft 365 and Azure across client environments.
- Basic network troubleshooting and connectivity support across client sites.
- Working within Halo PSA for ticket management and documentation.
- Contributing to site surveys, project delivery and client handovers.
- Liaising directly with clients and providing clear, professional updates throughout an incident or installation.
- Escalating genuinely complex issues to senior technical resources where required, while retaining ownership of client communication.
- Maintaining accurate ticket notes, documentation and records of work carried out.
Profile:
- AV: Lightware and related AV tooling
- Microsoft: M365 and Azure
- PSA: Halo
- General L1 / L2 field competencies: Device provisioning, connectivity troubleshooting, client-facing communication, documentation
- Networking (working knowledge): Unifi, Meraki, Ruckus, Twiindata
Our client is looking for someone with a good practical understanding of AV and IT systems, and a working grasp of networking fundamentals, including:
- AV displays, switching and control systems.
- Device provisioning and general IT systems troubleshooting.
- Microsoft 365 and Azure administration basics.
- TCP / IP, IPv4 addressing and Wi-Fi connectivity fundamentals.
- General LAN fault-finding and connectivity troubleshooting.
Experience with every platform is not essential. Our client is more interested in someone with strong AV and IT systems fundamentals who can apply those skills across different technologies and disciplines.
About You
This role is well suited to an individual who is comfortable working across multiple technical domains, adapting seamlessly to shifting priorities within the same working day. The successful candidate will be self-sufficient in the field, managing their own workload with minimal supervision whilst maintaining a high standard of work.
A collaborative and flexible approach is essential, with a willingness to support the wider team where needed. Strong communication skills are equally important in both managing client relationships and in keeping internal stakeholders informed and updated.
- Has previous experience in an AV, IT support, field engineering or Service Desk / MSP environment.
- Comfortable being the first point of contact on a client site, rather than only dealing with escalated issues.
- Takes ownership of problems and follows them through to resolution.
- Produces clear and accurate technical documentation and ticket notes.
- Enjoys learning new technologies and developing their knowledge across AV, IT systems and networking disciplines.
- Holds a full UK driving licence, given the field-based nature of the role and UK-wide travel.
Package:
- £35,000 per annum, dependent on experience
- Full-time, permanent position
- Field-based role covering client sites across the UK
- Company equipment provided
- Travel expenses for client site attendance
- Technical training and development
- Exposure to a broad range of client environments across AV, IT systems and networking disciplines
